- If you’ve ever stepped out of your body and looked back at yourself, that’s PTSD. If you’ve ever taken yourself to a safe space, or found yourself above your body looking down, or shut off feeling but could still hear sound — that’s PTSD.
PTSD — Post‑Traumatic Stress Disorder
A mental health condition that develops after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. It involves intrusive memories, heightened threat responses, and changes in mood, body, and perception. People with PTSD may experience:
Flashbacks (reliving the event as if it’s happening now)
Dissociation (feeling detached from body, mind, or surroundings)
Avoidance of reminders of the trauma
Hyperarousal (being on edge, jumpy, or unable to relax)
Negative shifts in thinking and mood
PTSD is not weakness. It is the brain’s survival system stuck in “protective mode” long after the danger has passed.
