Intro / Explanation
Sometimes, on hormone‑drop days, sensory overload hits harder — the noise, the voices, the train carriage hum. And sometimes you clock someone being unbearably loud, taking up space, talking like they’re the only person alive. You think: why is she doing that?
And then you realise — she’s a woman performing the behaviour that gets rewarded in certain work cultures. Not gender criticism. Just observation. Just the moment you recognise the costume.
Train Scene — The Woman Doing the Man Stance
(poem)
Rain. Train. A woman talking loudly about work — like she’s the only one on the carriage.
Then I realise why.
The stance. The spread. The arm behind the head. The confidence poured over two seats. Emails open, visible to everyone, no care, no boundary.
She’s doing the thing. The man stance. The space‑claim. The loud‑logic. The performance of certainty.
Shouting. Talking. Explaining. Over‑explaining.
And suddenly it makes sense — she’s not being rude, she’s being what the job taught her to be.
Still… I’d like some quiet, and for her to refrain from my seat — because who hasn’t had someone spread out beside you like it’s their god‑given right?
